Michael Artemis
Poet and Horror Writer
writing about writing about writing
It's difficult to know what to start a writing blog with.
You want to be relatable, but you don't want to seem cheesy or cliché. There's a certain level of pretentiousness that is charming, but go too far, and you risk sounding self-important. Above all, there's an intense desire to be entertaining. To grab the reader. Show you're worth it.
In the end, you've just got to give it a go.
My name is Mike, I'm 23, and I write horror for queer people to enjoy. I'm in love with the unsettling, fiction that feels like a slow walk to the graveyard, the kind that scoops you out and leaves you staring at the dark corners of your bedroom.
I am also a poet. It's where I started writing, it's my comfort zone. It's where I've developed most, too - I did a Master's in Creative Writing, and to be honest, I'm using it as an excuse to dedicate my life to poetry. One day, as many writers hope, I'll find my way into the industry. But for now, like most of us (read: poorer than rich), I work for the knife. Such is life.
